Grab a glass of hot wine and cookies and join us on this art meet-up accompanied by a popular-science lecture about science behind making and reserving art. It's a great opportunity to meet your peer artists and learn something new about art. Date and time: 14.01.2023 at 18:00 Duration: 2 hours Place: Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal 340, Amsterdam, Netherlands (art studio of Darya Mitta) During the lecture, you will learn about restless and exciting life of molecules in oil paint, and how scientists use this knowledge to treat paintings in museums. You will also hear about curious historical cases in restoration, as for example stitching Rembrandt’s Nachtwacht after it was attacked with a knife. The lecture will end with an advice on how to protect your own paintings from severe degradation in future. The lecture will be given in simple language with a lot of funny facts and nice visual material to support the story. Drinks and cookies are included in the price. The speaker is Yuliia Orlova, who is an expert in chemistry of oil paint and has a PhD degree in this area.
